Base Commander’s Log—September 08

Greetings, crew!

            Hard to imagine, but summer is winding down again. At the last SBK meeting we planned events straight through until the end of the year! But we do have some fun things coming up: RenFest on Sunday, Sept 14th; hopefully a Swoonathon at Laura’s in October along with our meeting in Lexington; Count Marco’s castle for Halloween along with a spooky video marathon sometime that month at the CO’s; Starbase Indy in November, and a viewing of the holiday lights in December along with helping Jan Popp celebrate her retirement around New Year’s Eve!

As I think about these events, I realize that SBK is staffed with great people who know their jobs and manage to make all the duties that entail keeping the club running look almost fun. SO, I have made an important decision.

There seems to be a great reluctance to do reporting of any kind. Although I know from past experience that reporting by the club’s officers ensures information flows in a smooth manner to all the members, I have decided that perhaps at this time we don’t need this function. So I'm doing away with it! All I ask is that the club’s members observe the Chain of Communication and the SBK officers keep me informed of what I need to know. After all this time, I think you know what I mean.

So tuck those report books into a drawer where they can gather dust until we need them (and we will, but you’ll know the time). Let’s just have some fun this fall—and make this the best holiday season we’ve ever had!
